back from lead camp [and four hours of peaceful sleep]!
so i guess it wasnt that bad. i mean, i have nothing against camps, it's just the idea of a leadership camp that sucks. all the debriefs and talk about action plans and work plans and cca goals and personal leadership yada yada. err. yeaaaaah, not my cup of tea. by the end of camp i've become pro at giving politically correct answers.
so anyway, the campsite was much smaller than i expected? but two things i did like were the food and instructors. haha. we met jackie chan and taufik! only they dont act, sing or dance - they climb and kayak. i swear, mr taufik looks like a cross between abang ram and mr mat. AND YKNOW WHAT. the campsite is freaking near changi airport so literally every 10 minutes [or less] we'll hear and see a freaking plane flying above us. they were all landing so everytime we saw them they were like, biggggg cos they were kinda close to the ground already? so imagine the level of noise and how PEACEFULLY we slept at night. i woke up at least 10 times each night, covering my hands over my ears and having visions of planes crashing down on us. after awhile all of us could identify sia planes by the noise they make because OHMYGOD sia planes are THE noisiest planes on earth.
my group only got to do one high element thing, and it was the lamest of them all [though i was scared but hey i have a thing for heights ok]. i was plucking up my courage to do all the other scarier height element things, but then we stopped cos of the rain. cheat my feelings. had general stations also, which all had learning points like trust and teamwork and whatevernots. riiiight. at night we [were supposed to] discuss cca things, which crystal and i totally did man, totally. people like anzie and shuangwei of course made full use of the time but people like us and latha wasted it away. oops? so that was more or less day one.
day two was kayaking and rafting. i liked rafting, our raft floated and didnt dismantle, how amazing is that. oh yes, the next time we have camps that involve water activities, remind me to buy fake crocs. they are so practical. your feet are covered so you dont have to worry about rocks, and unlike shoes you can get rid of the sand damn easily cos like crocs are holey? plus, fake crocs cost like 6 bucks. anyway, my group served lunch all sandy and wet. then we had kayaking. didnt do drills so yay no capsizing. but kayaking sucked. we didnt kayak very far out, the fun was supposed to be in the activities we were supposed to do like standing on our kayaks and exchanging partners in the middle of the sea. but the stupid currents kept making us drift near the rocky areas so we spent most of the three hours rafting up and breaking raft before doing anything cos we kept having to kayak away from the rocks. hello frustrating much? but i liked our instructor, she exudes i'm-cool-because-i-can-kayak-proly-unlike-some-of-you-sigh-darlings-what-on-earth-are-you-doing vibes. in a good way. at night had presentation things and reflections and whatevernots. i was half asleep throughout. even so, I SAW A RAT! okay a [really tiny] mouse but yes. and i amused myself by watching the camelot instrcutors attempting to catch it. i dont know if they did in the end, so good luck to future campers. planes were extra noisy last night, and mozzies were extra thirsty. ):
third day a few sec ones and twos came and we took over as fascilitators while our own fascis just sat around and observed. yada yada, cleanup, closing ceremony, HOME! and that was basically lead camp. i left out a lot of things but whatever?
